Print on demand AI mockup generator: Create unique mockups in any scene
Interested in joining the world's leading print on demand platform?
The product images in your online store determine whether someone scrolls past or takes a closer look. Research shows that 56% of shoppers explore product images immediately after landing on a product page, making visuals your first and most crucial connection with potential buyers. Generic white backgrounds just don't cut it anymore — customers want to see your products in context, in settings they can relate to.
Our AI mockup generator lets you showcase your print on demand products in realistic environments that are completely unique to your brand. Every mockup is one of a kind, so you'll never see your scene on another seller's page.
Prodigi Pro merchants can create unlimited AI mockups, while core account users get five free mockups. Generate realistic scenes for any product in your print on demand catalogue — from photo frame mockups in curated gallery settings to poster mockups in styled living spaces.
Why contextual mockups convert better than white backgrounds
Product: Classic frames
Lighting: Soft daylight
Prompt: Hung on the wall in a sage-green kitchen with chopping boards, mason jars and a barista-style coffee machine.
Most print on demand sellers use the same template mockups. Same angles, same lighting, same backgrounds. When a customer's browsing Etsy or Amazon, they see near-identical product images dozens of times. Nothing stands out.
Contextual product images significantly outperform isolated white background shots — customers are 60% more likely to purchase products when shown in real-life settings. Shoppers need to visualise how products fit into their lives. For example, a cushion on a white background is just a cushion, but that same cushion styled on a velvet sofa in warm afternoon light becomes something they can picture in their own home.
That’s where our AI mockups come in. You describe the environment you want, choose your lighting style and we'll generate an original website mockup. Picture your wall art in a minimalist Scandi living room, your tote bag in a Brooklyn coffee shop or your phone case on a marble desk beside a morning coffee.
You're not just showing what your product looks like — you're putting it into context. That's the difference between a scroll and a sale.
How to create free mockups with our AI mockup generator
Product: Spiral notebooks
Lighting: Golden hour
Prompt: Sitting on a coffee table in a contemporary loft apartment with quirky artwork and a bubble sofa.
Our AI mockups currently work for the same products as our 3D mockups, including wall art, home decor, cards and stationery, and more.
To get started, log into your dashboard, choose your product, upload your design and navigate to the image editor, where you'll find our AI mockup generator. For 2025, Prodigi Pro merchants get unlimited access to AI mockups. Not on Pro yet? You'll get five free mockups to try.
Next, select your lighting style — soft daylight for natural-looking scenes, golden hour for elevated appeal, blue hour for sophisticated evening vibes, candlelit for warm intimate settings or spotlight contrast when you want bold dramatic focus. Describe the scene you want, and we'll generate your custom website mockup.
Download it and use it wherever you need — whether it’s for product pages, social media, email campaigns or website mockups for your online store.
Product: Button pin badges
Lighting: Soft daylight
Prompt: Pinned on a denim jacket that’s draped over the back of a desk chair in a teenage girl's bedroom.
Meet the developer: Behind the scenes of our AI mockups
We sat down with Callum, the lead developer who helped build the interface for our AI mockup generator, to find out how the feature came to life and get his top tips for creating standout product images.
What was the biggest technical challenge you faced building this feature?
The biggest challenge was preserving the detail and placement of the user's artwork while changing the scenery. We tested loads of image generation models, and while many of them were able to reproduce the general vibe of the artwork, they were redrawing it in that classic AI style, which wasn't what we wanted. Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash Image — amusingly nicknamed Nano Banana — helped solve that issue.
Were there any unexpected uses or scenes merchants created during testing that surprised you?
I was amazed to see that somebody had applied a Christmas scene to our wrapping paper, and all these perfect-looking gifts were wrapped up, complete with shiny bows and ribbons, underneath a Christmas tree.
I’m also really impressed at how well the AI model can deal with fabrics. For example, the woven blankets can be draped over chairs, the end of a bed or even folded up. It preserves the details of the artwork really well, which honestly blows my mind.
What makes Prodigi's AI mockup generator different from other AI image tools out there?
Ironically, the real power behind our mockup generator is the work we do before using the AI model. We model and pose our products by hand and apply the user's image directly to it before rendering the mockup. The result is a photo-realistic render with a precise placement and reproduction of their artwork.
Once we have those well-lit, studio-style renders, we've got a perfect blank slate to feed into the AI model so that it can implement the product into a custom scene. AI models tend to struggle with consistency and reproducibility, so by taking that part into our own hands and integrating the AI scenes directly into our editor, I think we've created a really unique tool.
Product: Box frames
Lighting: Soft daylight
Prompt: Hung on the wall above a sleek wooden sideboard in a bright, modern Scandinavian-style kitchen with white walls and natural wood accents.
How did you balance making it powerful enough for creative freedom while keeping it simple to use?
This was a tough problem, and I'd love to hear feedback from users on what they think and what else they'd like to be able to do.
We wanted to make sure our merchants didn't need to include any instructions to preserve their image, or change only certain aspects, so we've taken that out of their hands, leaving room instead for the creative description.
We saw consistently impressive results with some specific changes to lighting (golden hour, my beloved), so we wanted to make sure those options were easily visible and selectable.
As for the scenes themselves, that's where we want to provide the freedom, but it's still difficult, because when you're given an empty box, there’s an element of choice paralysis. We're hoping that for our merchants who have a strong sense of their brand, this will be an easy box to fill.
What's your favourite mockup scene you've seen a merchant create so far?
It's hard to say because there’s been such a variety already! I've spotted a couple from one artist who creates these gorgeous landscape paintings. They've placed them into a beautiful room overlooking a view just like the one in the painting, which is super clever. It just ties the whole aesthetic together so nicely.
Any insider tips for getting the best results from the AI generator?
Firstly, leave out any of the special AI buzzwords you might be tempted to put in, like "photo-realistic". When editing images, our generator matches the style of the original image, so it doesn't need any help on that front, and we found that including these in testing led to no change or sometimes strange results.
Be descriptive and use full sentences, instead of lists of descriptions. "A cosy coffee shop with leather chairs and dark wooden furniture" will typically produce better results than "cosy coffee shop, leather chairs, dark wooden furniture".
Be specific about the placement of the product at the start of the prompt. For example, "on a blue geometric wall" and "in a room with blue geometric walls" will produce quite different results, with the latter generally changing more of the image to produce the room mentioned. You don't have to include this, describing only the scenery, but specifying where your product should be provides the AI model with good scope and context.
My most important tip would be to experiment. If a prompt doesn't look great the first time, hit generate again. AI models have this concept of "temperature", which essentially allows them to have a little randomness and creativity. That means you get different results every time you run a prompt through them, which is important but makes them unpredictable, so generate a few if you're not pleased with the initial results, then look at tweaking your description if you're still not happy. Merchants are already finding new and exciting ways to use the AI scenes that we hadn't even considered, so get creative with it.
Real merchants, real results: See what’s possible with AI mockups
From art galleries to lifestyle brands, print on demand sellers are already putting AI mockups to work, creating unique product imagery that converts. Here's what they think:
The AI generator speeds up the creation of visual assets and helps communicate how a piece will feel in a real interior, which is very valuable for product pages and marketing. The AI scenes are especially useful for creating editorial-style images and social assets without staging a photoshoot, saving time and money.
Product: Canvas cushions
Lighting: Golden hour
Prompt: In a colourful, quirky and eclectic living room on a sofa with a bobbin floor lamp in the background.
Prodigi's new AI mockups are already proving to be a valuable addition to the platform. The AI-generated scenes are a brilliant concept too, especially for lifestyle and editorial use. Overall, it's very promising, particularly for brands like ours that rely heavily on visual storytelling.
